Best known as founding member of and producer for the legendary hiphop groupJurassic 5, Cut Chemist is a an influential force in world music. Prior to cutting his first solo LP, The Audience’s Listening, Cut Chemist collaborated with DJ Shadow, cutting and juggling a crate of original funk 45s to produce one of the world’s most sought after mix CDs, Brainfreeze.

He now brings his wizardry to Beijing, adding to his repertoire a breathtaking live set. Using just one turntable, a mixer, a loop pedal and all original vinyl, Cut will blend Ethiopian, Colombian, Sudanese and AfroBrazilian sounds, making the crowd remember that hip hop culture is indeed rooted in Africa.

No Go Die Records Boss DJ Slide has just been crowned DJ of the Year 2011 by City Weekend Readers!

Suffice to say we’ve knocked back a few drinks in celebration and are super-positive that a brand new sound like No Go Die has managed to reach such heady heights in such a short space of time. Hopefully the first of a great many accolades as broken beats take China by storm!

Massive thanks to all the loyal No Go Die music fiends who made this happen. More beats heading your way very soon, with the release of our first EP in September this year.

Oh, and we might just get him to put together a celebratory mix CD before then. Keep your ears peeled!

This month, No Go Die welcomes Lazka to the infamous underground bunker in Beiluoguxiang.

You may know him as DJ Harikiri, but Lazka has been straining at the leash on the Beijing underground scene with a bevvy of superb brand new studio productions that are bursting at the seams with syncopated genius.

In January our newest recruit gets a full 2 hours to unleash his latest funkstep/afrostep rhythms on the No Go Die army.

Uploaded by popular demand, this is a piece especially composed and performed as an intro to the 2010 TedxBeijing event. The theme of the day was “Uncovering Innovation” and featured a host of eminent Chinese and international thought leaders. This track combines two forms of Chinese Opera (Jingju and Kunqu) with a weighty DnB rhythm.

We’re proud to announce that No Go Die’s DJ Slide (Jonathan Smith) will be partnering with TedxBeijing to provide the music experience for the annual Tedx event on November 13, 2010.

Slide will be the first act of the day,  performing a specially composed piece around the theme of “Uncovering Innovation”. Expect to hear traditional Chinese opera combined with cutting-edge electronic rhythms as an explosive introduction to the Ted experience.

Additionally, Slide will be hand-picking “stinger” tracks for speaker intros, as well as performing 15 minute eclectic mini-mixes to keep the energy high and the creative energy flowing.

“It’s a huge privilege to be creating part of the TED experience here in Beijing. Innovation is at the core of No Go Die’s ethos and so creating a soundtrack around that theme is an exciting challenge.”
